CHERRY

(Red, White, Yellow)    Avid soft spots, bruises & splits.  Red cherries are ripe when deep red.  White & yellow varieties are ripe when flushed with pink.

Select plump cherries with firm smooth & well-colored skin.  Look for green, attached stems.  Refrigerate, covered for up to 3 days.  Don't wash until ready to eat.  Handle with care, cherries bruise easily.  For later use, rinse cherries well & freeze in plastic bags.  NUTRITION:  Fat free; low in calories; good source of Potassium, vitamin C, B complex & minerals.  To pit a cherry remove stem, halve the cherry with a paring knife & remove pit
